Exafs Characterisation of Poorly Crystalline Deposits from Biological Systems in the Presence of Highly Crystalline Mineral

چکیده
EXAFS can be used to characterise the phase of an amorphous calcified deposit mixed with a crystalline phase which does not contain calcium. In such a mixture, the amorphous phase may not be detectable by X-ray diffraction. This application of EXAFS is illustrated by the characterisation of the calcium phosphate deposited in association with struvite in encrusted urinary catheters.

Effects of Humic Acid on Ti2O Nanoparticle Biosynthesized by Lactobacillus Delbrueckii Subsp
Biological systems provide many examples of specifically tailored, nanostructured molecules with highly optimized properties and characteristics. These biomaterials are composite materials and consist of an inorganic component and a special organic matrix. Crystalline bacterial cell surface layers (S-layers( are the outermost cell envelope component of many eubacteria and archaea and are compos...

متن کاملGeology and geochemistry of skarn deposits in the northern part of Ahar batholith, East Azarbaijan, NW Iran
Principal Skarn deposits along the northern margin of the Ahar batholith from west to east include Mazraeh, Vine and Gowdoul skarn deposits. Among these skarn deposits, the Mazraeh Cu-Fe Skarn deposit is the most typical skarn deposit in the NW Iran. This skarn deposit is located 5 km. north of Mazraeh village and 20 km north of Ahar town. The origin and development of the skarn can be related ...
متن کاملCharacterization of extracellular minerals produced during dissimilatory Fe(III) and U(VI) reduction at 100 degrees C by Pyrobaculum islandicum.
In order to gain insight into the significance of biotic metal reduction and mineral formation in hyperthermophilic environments, metal mineralization as a result of the dissimilatory reduction of poorly crystalline Fe(III) oxide, and U(VI) reduction at 100 degrees C by Pyrobaculum islandicum was investigated. When P. islandicum was grown in a medium with poorly crystalline Fe(III) oxide as an ...
متن کاملAssociation of Tremolite Habit with Biological Potential: Preliminary Report
Tremolite is an amphibole mineral which occurs naturally in three distinct mor phological forms or mineral habits. It may occur as asbestos, splintery fibres or in mas sive crystalline deposits. Mineral habit is determined at the time of its crystallization and conversion to a different habit would require re-crystallization. The massive crystalline deposits, on crushing may yield elongated f...
